Public Affairs Monthly Report

November 1997

Programming:

  • Continued producing weekly LO shows for David Miller and Carmen Hansen Rivera. We will produce these shows until the end of 1997, at which time the only LO show production to be done in the 3030 Roosevelt Studios will be Six-Thirty PM on Mondays, and The Recorder on Air (ROAR) Show on Thursdays.
  • Carried six Indiana Pacers games on the Educational Public Safety Channel so that customers in non-upgraded areas could view the local games.
  • Carried public service announcements for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the Indianapolis Zoo and the Christamore Tree Spree.
  • As part of our sponsorship of non-profits in the community, we produced and ran promotional spots for American Cabaret Theatre’s "Painting the Universe," Indianapolis Opera’s "The Rake’s Progress," the Edyvean Theatre’s production of "Joseph & Mary," and the Artsgarden’s monthly Sunday afternoon Jazz Concert.

Community:

  • Helped coordinate focus group with educators to determine whether "Cable in the Classroom" program could be enhanced by collaboration with Arts Indiana.
  • Provided event sponsorship for the NAACP Annual Meeting.
  • Sponsored the USA Kids Club mascot at the Lafayette Square Mall Grand Opening.
  • Hosted Odyssey Network launch event at the Convention Center. Over 30 local Faith Community Leaders were honored at the event.
  • Provided media sponsorship for the Indiana Humanities Council’s 25th Anniversary Celebration at the American Cabaret Theatre.
  • Provided sponsorship for the Indianapolis Press Club’s State Legislative event.
  • PR Manager Al Aldridge participated in WTHR’s (Channel 13) focus group with members of "100 Black Men" to determine how the media can improve its relationship with the community.

  • Aldridge, a president of the board of directors for Hemophilia of Indiana, also represented the organization at the National Hemophilia Convention.
  • The Indiana Cable Telecommunications Association presented Time Warner Cable with two Vision Awards for Best Single Public Affairs Program and Best Overall Commitment to Local Programming.
