Public Affairs Monthly Report
April 1994
-
Produced live coverage of three Indianapolis Public School Board Candidate Debates in cooperation with Community Leaders Allied for Superior Schools (CLASS) and the local chapter of the Coalition of 100 Black Women.
-
Provided corporate sponsorship of Indianapolis Opera's "Ballad of Baby Doe" production. In conjunction with the sponsorship, we held an opening night reception in which patrons were offered the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a 100-Ounce Bar of Silver. The proceeds from the raffle sales were used to underwrite the cost over 160 student seats at next season's production of "Rigeletto." American Cablevision purchased the first 100 student seats and the raffle was able to underwrite another 60 seats.
-
American Cablevision's Human Resource Director Jan Clark and VP of Public Affairs Shary Hoffman-Meadows completed the co-direction of six public forums on Race Relations in cooperation with The Indianapolis Star, local ABC affiliate WRTV-Channel 6 and the City's Vision Indianapolis Tomorrow Organization.
-
Continued videotaping new "Voices of Triumph-Black History" spot announcements written by Indianapolis Public School students who have completed reading the first two volumes of "Voices of Triumph." The spots are being inserted into American Cablevision's local origination programs as well as provided as PSA's for the Indianapolis Interconnect.
-
Several American Cablevision employees serve as room partners to IPS School 11 through the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce's Partners in Education Program. One partner worked with a kindergarten class to produce and video tape a program that was used as a part of the students' salute to their mother's for Mother's Day. Another employee completed the Junior Achievement study program with her kindergarten class.
