Eastside problem motel to be demolished today
INDIANAPOLIS – Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell will join Eastside community leaders to celebrate the start of demolition of the Drake Motel, the troubled Eastside property that has been a haven for blight and crime.
When: Today, November 9
12:30 p.m.
Where: The Drake Motel, 9702 E. Washington Street
(parking is available at Methodist East Plaza, next door at 9650 E. Washington Street)
The Drake Motel has been a longtime eyesore for Eastside residents.
Over the last two plus years, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and the Warren Township Fire Department made more than 140 total runs to the Drake property. The Drake had also been cited for dozens of code violations, including trash and debris, abandoned vehicles and unhealthy living conditions.
The demolition will make way for new retail development.
