Sen. Bayh, Congresswoman Carson, Mayor Peterson to announce major revitalization effort on city's northeast side

Indianapolis – State, federal and local leaders, including U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh, Congresswoman Julia Carson and Mayor Bart Peterson, will be on hand to celebrate the demolition of a long-standing neighborhood eye-sore and kick-off an extensive, multi-million dollar revitalization effort on the city's northeast side.

When: TODAY, May 6, 10:40 a.m.

Where: Site of the former Parkwood Apartments, 3846 Forest Grove Dr. (On the 3500 block of East 38th Street, just west of Sherman Drive and East of Mozel Sanders Apts.)

The major redevelopment initiative, made possible by federal grant dollars, will encompass the site of the former Parkwood Apartments, a blighted, crime-ridden complex located in an area known as the Meadows.

The buildings of Parkwood will be razed to make way for a new development that will bring an infusion of private investment into the area and create hundreds of new, affordable housing opportunities.

Crews will be on site demolishing buildings during the event.
