Mayor to visit Herron High School on first day of school
UBS Financial Services to announce major gift to school
INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Bart Peterson will visit Herron High School during its first day of school. UBS Financial Services will also announce a major gift to the school.

(The event will take place in the courtyard of the Harrison Center for the Arts. Herron High School is temporarily located within the Harrison Center.)
UBS Indianapolis Branch Manager Thomas Boesen will present a check to the school at today’s event, and the 9th grade class will officially become the UBS Scholars of 2010. The gift will be used for operating expenses and to help bridge the financial gap that many charter schools experience in the start-up phase. The company has also pledged the support of its employees to help with mentoring, tutoring, sponsorship of school events, and field trips.
Herron High School will serve 100 ninth grade students in this year, eventually growing to serve 400 students in grades 9-12. The school was developed by members of the downtown cultural community, led by the Harrison Center for the Arts, who wanted a unique high school which could grow Indianapolis' creative class and serve families near downtown. The school offers a rigorous, college-preparatory liberal arts education focused on a classical curriculum.
