New township administrator appointed

INDIANAPOLIS – The city’s Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD), Neighborhood Services Division today announced the appointment of Katy J. Brett as the newest township administrator.
Township administrators serve as liaisons between city government services and neighborhoods, community groups and businesses.  The appointment is effective immediately.

Brett will join two township administrators currently serving Center Township, which has more than 75 participating community groups that account for more than 50 percent of all active neighborhoods organizations in Indianapolis/Marion County.  She will be responsible for serving the near-east side and southeast side of Center Township.

Brett joins DMD after serving as program director for Indiana 2016, a task-force initiated by the late Governor Frank O’Bannon and former First Lady Judy O’Bannon aimed at strengthening Hoosier communities by developing and working towards a vision for creating a better future for the state as it approaches its 200th birthday in 2016.  As program director, Brett was charged with identifying grant funding, working with Indiana communities to implement initiatives and managing the budget and fund-raising.

“The Mayor is excited to have Katy join the city’s terrific team of township administrators,” said Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell.  “Her proven leadership skills and experience in working closely with the community will be a great asset in serving the people of Indianapolis and Center Township.”

Prior to heading up Indiana 2016, Brett worked as Mrs. O’Bannon’s program assistant where she helped plan and implement programs and events for the former First Lady and served as a representative on various community boards and councils.  Since 2001, Brett has helped organize Santaland, a program launched by Mrs. O’Bannon that provides gifts and food to underprivileged children and low-income families during the holidays.

Over the last two years, Brett also has helped lead Indiana delegations consisting of state and local leaders to nations of the Czech Republic, Poland and South Africa.

Brett earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science from DePauw University in 2001.

She can be reached by e-mail at kbrett@indygov.org or by calling 327-5595.
