Senior Sentinels

Organized by Adult Protective Services, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office Senior Sentinels are trained volunteers, seniors themselves, who provide presentations on specific topics of interest to seniors.  Prosecutor Brizzi has said, “We want to help people understand the signs of criminal abuse and exploitation of our elderly citizens.”

The primary goal of the Senior Sentinels program is to educate seniors so that they are not as likely to become crime victims.  Personal safety, home and apartment security, consumer fraud, home repair and personal scams, charity fraud and identity theft are all topics on which the Senior Sentinels are prepared to speak.

Groups which could definitely benefit from the Senior Sentinels services include, but are not limited to, community and residence groups and associations, church or community center senior groups, service clubs, special interest clubs, social and philanthropic groups.  The service area for these presentations is throughout Marion, Boone, Hamilton and Hendricks counties.  Presentations are free and can be set to meet the group’s programming schedule.

Volunteers make presentations of about 30 minutes in length with a question and answer period following.  Presenters supply additional related printed materials for the group.  The Senior Sentinels like to personalize their presentations with anecdotes and humor.
